What is the goal of this study?

Not all mental health treatments work the same for every family. This study is helping create new tools so therapists can tailor care to better match each youth’s background, values, and experiences, particularly for Latino/a youth and families.

What will the study involve?

Therapists, parents, and teens will take part in small group meetings where they will be asked to share their ideas about how to design tools that help therapists personalize treatment for Latino/a youth and families. These group meetings will be video recorded so that the research team captures everyone’s ideas - and these recordings will not be shared with anyone outside of the research team. Participants will also complete a brief questionnaire about their demographics.

Where is the study taking place?

Totally remotely! All group meetings will be held online via Zoom.

How long will the study take?

Each group meeting will last 8 hours and will be scheduled every other week for two months or monthly for four months, starting in December 2025 or January 2026. There will be scheduled breaks about every 2 hours, and opportunities for additional breaks as needed.

Who can participate?

We are hoping to learn from:

  • Therapists with at least 5 years of clinical experience using MAP or MATCH with Latino/a families with anxiety, depression, trauma, or conduct problems

  • Parents of a Medicaid-eligible Latino/a child (ages 5-15) who has received outpatient therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, or conduct problems in the past year

  • Latino/a teens (ages 12-15) who are Medicaid-eligible and have received outpatient therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, or conduct problems in the past year

What are the risks and benefits of participating?

The risks of participating are minimal and include mild boredom and others in the group knowing that you participated. There are no anticipated direct benefits, but your participation may help the research team develop tools for helping improve mental health treatment for Latino/a youth and families.

Will I be paid for participating?

Yes! Therapists may be paid up to a total of $3,200 ($800 per 8-hour group meeting). Parents may be paid up to $2,560 ($640 per 8-hour group meeting). Teens may be paid up to a total of $640 ($160 per 8-hour group meeting).
